To become a chef, one should have genuine interest for food and ingredients. It is not enough to say that you enjoy the process of eating because at the basic level, every human is bound to somehow enjoy the idea of digesting something because hunger is a natural occurrence.
Even before going to culinary school, one must exhibit a passion for cooking and a penchant for discovering flavors and ingredients to come up with creative and tasty dishes. Along the way, you will easily discover what your “specialization” is. However, most of the time, the specific field in which chefs are assigned to are quite vague. There is no clear cut way on how to become a pastry chef, for one. But with a solid culinary background, armed with a genuine passion for learning and for a craft, being a successful chef is definitely within reach.
